Research is currently underway to develop test solutions for edge coupled PICs, where innovative optical micro-probes are fabricated using ultra high-resolution 3D printing. This probe incorporates optical fibers with microlenses and micro turning mirrors to turn the light 90 degrees for edge coupling from a vertical probe, see Figure YYY. Figure ZZZ shows a PIC with an etched facet for edge coupling.
